Amazon Prepares to Enter the AR Smart Glasses Market with Dual Approach

Amazon is reportedly working on advanced augmented reality glasses aimed at competing with existing market leaders. The tech giant is developing two distinct versions tailored for different audiences, signaling a serious commitment to the expanding wearable tech sector.

The first version, codenamed Jayhawk, is a consumer-focused device. It will feature a display built into the lens, along with integrated speakers, microphones, and cameras. Designed for everyday tasks like communication, media playback, and mobile applications, this model blends functionality with convenience.

The second version, called Amelia, is intended for internal logistics teams. Built with a more rugged design, it includes a heads-up display for real-time package sorting and route navigation, aiming to enhance efficiency for Amazon delivery personnel.

Production is expected to begin in Q2 of 2026, with an initial batch of around 100,000 units. Both glasses will utilize display technology developed by Chinese company Meta-Bounds, which also powers Meizu’s StarV eyewear.

This move places Amazon among major players like Meta, Apple, Google, and Samsung, signaling a clear intention to merge style with practical use. The company is positioning itself not just in the consumer market, but also in enterprise-focused solutions within the growing AR ecosystem.
